MB7ILO EchoLink Gateway going 24/7
Posted by M1OOO on 31 Oct 2007

First testing phase completed

After extensive on-site testing and many late nights at M1OOO's second home the Sidmouth Observatory, M1OOO-L will shortly be live 24/7 with the new MB7ILO callsign. We are just awaiting the green light while this part of the licensing is finalised. In the meantime tests will continue when Iain can be at the site which is usually very often and very late!!

M0THJ provided the computing hardware, and the RF system, currently an IC-706, will be replaced with a heavy-duty PMR unit donated and programmed by Peter at Garex Electronics, to satisfy the anticipated high demand through the link.

During extensive on-site testing, the system has been surprisingly stable with mobile stations reporting a good RF footprint. Plans are advanced for upgrading the Gateway in Exeter, and possibly Exmouth, to be linked in with Sidmouth, which should provide good mobile coverage in South and East Devon, and parts of mid Devon, under the 'EXETERNET' project originally proposed by Mike, G7FEK.

Many thanks to those who've supplied time and hardware for the project and those who have assisted with trials:
